Matt Rewkowski joined the Cornell men’s lacrosse program prior to the 2011 season and following his first year on the sidelines, he was promoted to associate head coach of the men's lacrosse program at Cornell University. He is just the second Mario St. George Boiardi '04 Associate Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse in program history.
Rewkowski, the team’s offensive coordinator, suffered a huge blow in 2012 when the team lost Rob Pannell, the reigning USILA Player of the Year, in the second game of the season. Still, the team managed to be highly competitive and Rewkowski’s offense continued to flourish with the Big Red finishing the year ranked ninth in the country in scoring offense (12.0 gpg), 13th overall in man-up offense (.422) and 16th in points per game (17.62).
Cornell remained in the national ranking throughout 2012, going as high as third in the country before seeing its season come to an end in the opening round of the Ivy League Tournament. Cornell finished the year with a 9-4 record overall and a mark of 4-2 in the conference, good for a second-place finish in the league standings.
Following the season, freshman attackman Matt Donovan was named the unanimous Ivy League Rookie of the Year and garnered second-team All-Ivy honors, while his linemate Steve Mock ’13 was an honorable mention selection.
In his first season with the Big Red, Rewkowski helped the squad to a 14-3 record and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals. Cornell ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation as it won its ninth consecutive Ivy League title with a perfect 6-0 conference mark before going on to win its first-ever Ivy League tournament title.
Rewkowski was instrumental in Cornell finishing the season ranked second in the nation in scoring offense (12.71 goals per game), second in points per game (19.53), fifth in assists per game (6.82) and eighth overall in man-up offense (.408).
Under his tutelage, Pannell was selected as a first-team All-American and was named the USILA Player of the Year, the USILA Attackman of the Year, the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year, a Tewaaraton Trophy finalist and a nominee for an ESPY in the category of Best Collegiate Male Athlete.
Prior to his time at Cornell, Rewkowski spent four seasons at Hofstra, helping the Pride to 36 victories, a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship (2008), a CAA regular season title (2009), and three berths to the NCAA tournament (2008, '09, 10). He also had a hand in coaching eight All-Americans, 27 All-CAA selections and six North-South All-Stars.
Rewkowski's work with the Pride offense resulted in the 2010 unit being ranked in the top 10 in the nation in five offensive categories, including scoring offense (fifth – 12.93), scoring margin (fourth – 3.93), points per game (fourth – 20.5), assists per game (sixth – 7.57) and shot percentage (fourth – .352).
Prior to Hofstra, Rewkowski spent one season as an assistant coach on the scholastic level in Denver while he was a member of the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse.
Rewkowski had an outstanding college career at both Johns Hopkins and Duke, winning the 2005 NCAA championship as a senior captain with the Blue Jays.
A native of Bethpage, N.Y., Rewkowski was a two-time high school All-American in lacrosse and was the 2001 Nassau County Player of the Year, as well as an All-Long Island football pick at Bethpage High School.
Rewkowski graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2005 with a degree in history.
