As a halfback, he was a regular on defense in 1948, 1949 and ’50. A good punt returner, he led the team as a junior in pass interceptions, grabbing five for 110 yards and returned two for touchdowns. He was the regular quarterback and safetyman on the 1947 freshman team. He was a third baseman in baseball and led the Cornell batters in the Eastern Intercollegiate League with a .375 average in 1949 and ranked fifth in 1950. He captained the team as a senior.
