He was the stroke of three Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship crews (1955, 1956 and 1957). The ’57 crew, which is considered the greatest of all-time at Cornell, went 6-0 in dual regattas, won a second straight Eastern Sprints championship and won the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. He also stroked the undefeated freshman varsity eight crew in 1954. In 1956, he was the recipient of the Butler Memorial Trophy, awarded to a member of the varsity squad as voted by his mates to have done the most for Cornell rowing during the year.
