ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior Joe Yonga (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was named to the All-Ivy League second team in voting conducted by the league's coaches, the conference office announced on Wednesday. This marks the third time Yonga has earned all-league accolades, but the first time he has been named to the second team. In addition, junior Matt Bouraee and senior Dan McKallagat were both named honorable mention All-Ivy League.
Yonga helped to anchor a young Cornell defense and also helped to bolster the Big Red offense, scoring the first two goals of his career against New Hampshire and Lafayette, the latter of which turned out to be the game-winner in Cornell's 2-1 win over the Leopards. He finished the season with five points on two goals and an assist, the second-highest point total on the team.
Bouraee, a native of Manasquan, N.J., earns his third all-league honor, adding to his honorable mention as a freshman and selection to the all-league second team as a sophomore. He finished the season with a team-best three goals and six points, scoring a pair of goals against Dartmouth in the home finale at Berman Field. He upped his career total to 14 goals and 32 points with his performance during the season.
McKallagat, meanwhile, earns his first All-Ivy honor with his selection to the honorable mention list. The Groton, Mass., native, played in all 16 of the Big Red's games this season, starting 14 times. He picked up his lone point of the year on an assist in the Big Red's 3-2 loss to Penn in the Ivy League opener on Oct. 4 at Berman Field.
Dartmouth's Craig Henderson was named the league's player of the year, while the Big Green's Lucky Mkosana was named the top rookie in the Ivy League.
Cornell closed out the 2008 season with a 1-15 mark and an 0-7 record in Ivy League play.
