ITHACA, N.Y. -- Two days after backstopping the Cornell men's hockey team to its second straight home weekend sweep, junior goaltender
Ben Scrivens was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, as announced on Monday by the league office. This marks the third time this season and the fourth time in his career that Scrivens has earned the league's weekly honor.
Scrivens picked up the award after helping Cornell to a 4-1 win over Clarkson on Friday and a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday at Lynah Rink. In the win against the Knights, he made 13 saves on 14 shots, then picked up 14 saves in the third period alone on Saturday en route to a 25-save performance for his eighth career shutout and third of the season as Cornell downed the Saints, 1-0. For the weekend, he posted a 0.50 goals-against average and a .974 save percentage.
Scrivens has twice previously earned the award this year, being given the honor on Nov. 10 and Nov. 24. His first award came after posting back-to-back shutouts at Princeton and Quinnipiac, while the second came after helping Cornell to a sweep over Harvard and Dartmouth on Nov. 21-22. He was also given the award on Dec. 3, 2007, after setting a career high with 45 saves in a 0-0 tie with Massachusetts on Nov. 30, 2007.
The Big Red, currently 7-1-2 on the season and 6-0-2 in ECAC Hockey action, is off until Dec. 27 when it faces St. Cloud State in the opening round of the Florida College Classic in Estero, Fla.
