ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior wide receiver
Bryan Walters continued to put distance between himself and everyone else in Ivy League history in career kick returns and return yardage in a loss to No. 25 Colgate on Saturday and his efforts were rewarded by being named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday by the league office. Walters piled up 234 all-purpose yards, including 138 yards on kickoff returns, in the 45-23 defeat.
Proving once again he is one of the top offensive weapons in the Ancient Eight, Walters caught four passes for 96 yards and returned six kickoffs for 138 yards, increasing his Cornell and Ivy League records for kickoffs (105) and kickoff return yards (2,290). Walters had a kickoff return of 43 yards and caught passes of 43 and 32 yards, increasing the number of plays he's been involved in this season that have gone for 30 yards or more to six in three games. Walters moved to fifth on the school's career receiving yards list with 1,490.
Walters did not have an opportunity to return a punt against the Raiders, but he needs just 31 yards in his final seven games to become the all-time Ivy League leader in that category as well. He enters Saturday's game against preseason Ivy League favorite Harvard with 871 punt return.
The Big Red will face the Crimson on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.
