POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – For the first time under head coach Iryna Dolgikh, Cornell competed in the Vassar Invitational and shined defeating all eight opponents it faced on the day. The Big Red defeated Vassar College, 24-3, Haverford, 23-4, Drew, 25-2, Hunter, 24-3, Yeshiva, 25-2, CCNY, 25-2, Sacred Heart, 18-9, and Stevens Institute of Technology, 25-2.
The epee squad posted the best result of the day, going 62-6 overall. Cornell was led by Tasha Hall with a record of 15-1, while Sallie Dietrich went 14-3. Katherine Thompson finished with a record of 13-2, while Christie Robinson and Addy McDonnell posted clean slates with 11 and nine victories, respectively.
The foil squad had a solid outing with a 63-9 record on the day. Dana Baines led the way with a record of 20-1, while Rebecca Hirschfeld did not lose a bout, going a perfect 19-0. Analise Peleggi (14-4), Lucia Rafanelli (7-1) and McKellen Rattray (3-3) rounded out the squad.
A young sabre squad did very well, finishing with a record of 59-12. A pair of freshman led the squad with Audrey Speer going 19-2, while Beverly Yang finished 18-1. Kathleen Halpin had a solid record of 15-5, while Anna Bardakh (4-2) and Lilia Lavrov (3-2) both finished with winning records.
The Big Red travel to Waltham, Mass., to compete in the Brandeis Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 5 in the final competition of the fall semester and the final invitational before the Ivy League Championship.
