NEW HAVEN. Conn. -- For the second consecutive year, the Cornell gymnastics team took home the Ivy Classic title, winning the 2009 event held at Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater on Saturday afternoon. The Big Red's team score of 190.800 was more than two full points clear of runner-up Brown (188.400). Penn (187.325) and Yale (185.200) rounded out the field. Two individual champions highlighted the competition, as Kerri Lavallee won vault, while Melanie Standridge claimed the beam crown.

Cornell won three event competitions as a team, earning the high score on vault, bars and beam and ranking second on floor.

Both Lavallee and Standridge celebrated their first Ivy individual titles with the wins, with Lavallee (9.825) holding off teammates Sari Tepper (second, 9.775) and Maddie Pearsall (fourth, 9.600) on vault and Standridge matching all-around champion Alina Liao of Yale with a 9.775 beam routine. Danielle Scott was third on the event with a 9.650.

While not claiming a champion on bars, the Big Red had three of the top four finishers on the apparatus. Pearsall, Molly Parker and Bethany Neczypor all tied for second with routines scored 9.725, just behind Brown's Vida Rivera with a 9.750.

The Big Red's top finisher on floor was Stacey Ohara, who tied for fifth with a 9.700. Lavallee (seventh, 9.675), Pearsall (eighth, 9.650) and Lenk (10th, 9.600) all finished in the top 10 of the event.
