ITHACA, N.Y. – Three Cornell rowers – Andrew Diebold '06, Matt Kochem '08, and
Kerry Quinn '10 – have been selected to represent the United States as members of men's lightweight-8 boat at the upcoming World Rowing Championships scheduled for August 23-30 in Poznan, Poland.
Quinn, who will serve as coxswain for the boat, was invited to the US Olympic Training Center in West Windsor, N.J., where he earned his spot with the team.
"I'm thrilled to represent the United States of America on the highest level of international rowing,” said Quinn. “This opportunity is the direct result of the top-notch competitive environment I've experienced as a coxswain with the Cornell lightweights. The crew and I are focused on defending the USA World Championship title in the lightweight-8 as we complete our training in the U.S. and travel to Poland."
A three-year letter winner at Cornell, Kochem served as the lightweight team captain during his senior season. That year, he was an integral part of the 2008 squad that took first place at the Eastern Sprints and the IRA national championships.
Diebold lettered just once for the Big Red, but in that single season, he helped Cornell to victories at both the 2006 Eastern Sprints, as well as IRAs.
