OLEAN, N.Y. -- Junior
Matt Jaye tied a career-low round with a 1-under-par 69 to finish the 2009 Leo J. Keenan Invitational hosted by St. Bonaventure on Monday afternoon. His effort put him in fifth place and guaranteed the Big Red a sixth-place team finish as part of a second round 299.
Robert Cronheim also made a big jump with a second day 73 to finish 15th overall with a two-round score of 150.
After finishing tied for sixth as a team after the first 18 holes, Jaye spearheaded a charge by moving from 13th to fifth on the individual charts on day two.
Tim Murphy placed 29th with a 78 on day two for a two-day total of 153, while
Dan Bosse rounded out the scoring with an 81 for a 155. Freshman
Mark Baity shot a 79 for a two-round total of 157 to finish 43rd.
The Big Red will host the Cornell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
Day 1 Results
OLEAN, N.Y. -- The Cornell golf team opened up the 2009-10 campaign with a solid first round at the Leo J. Keenan Invitational hosted by St. Bonaventure, shooting a 300 on the par-70 Bartlett Country Club course. Three Big Red golfers finished the day in the top 25 individually, with both Matthew Jaye and
Dan Bosse shooting twin 74's to place tied for 13th.
Jaye and Bosse led a consistent Cornell effort with all five players finishing within four strokes of each other. Both players opened with 39's on their front nine before improving by four shots in the second round.
Tim Murphy shot a 75 to tie for 24th, improving on the back nine by three shots on his 39 over the first nine. The Big Red saw all five golfers improve on their second nine holes on the day.
Robert Cronheim rounded ou the team scoring with a 77 to place 33rd, while
Mark Baity placed 36th with his 78.
The Big Red will look to moe up the standings on day two beginning on Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
