ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell golf team, led by a pair of top 10 individual finishers, claimed fifth at the 2009 Cornell Fall Golf Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. The three-round tournament was shortened to 36 holes after a long afternoon rain forced the final 18 holes to be cancelled.

Robert Cronheim and Matt Jaye each tied for eighth place with two-round totals of 148, with both lowering their scores from round one to round two. As a team, the Big Red A team shaved 16 strokes off its first round 312, carding a season-low team total of 296, its third round at or below 300 in four rounds.

Individually, Alex Lavin placed 19th overall, shooting a 152 in his two rounds. The Big Red B team was 12th out of 15 total teams.

Cornell will return to action on Oct. 10-11 at the Big Five Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa.
