COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Cornell gymnastics team has a great jumping off point for the 2010 season after finishing second at the Maryland Quad Meet with a 189.375 score, behind only the host Terrapins (194.250). Cornell finished ahead of both Temple (188.025) and Bridgeport (187.350) to get the year off to a big start.
The Big Red's highest scoring event was on vault, with junior
Emily Santoro (9.800) and freshman
McKenna Archer (9.725) each surpassing 9.7's as Cornell posted a strong 48.225. Junior
Maddie Pearsall was the high scorer on bars with a 9.650, while
Melanie Standridge's 9.725 on beam led Cornell to a 47.950 as a team. Juniors
Danielle Scott and
Kim O'Donnell each recorded 9.600. On floor, senior
Brittany Howse hit for a 9.625 to lead the Big Red.
Cornell returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 17 when it competes in George Washington's Lindsey Ferris Invitational.
