ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sophomore goaltender Amanda Mazzotta posted a pair of shutouts last weekend against Quinnipiac and Princeton, earning her ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Mazzotta was outstanding in goal for the Big Red, stopping all 35 shots she faced on the weekend in helping the Big Red pick up three points. She made 14 saves in a scoreless tie against Quinnipiac and then posted another 21 saves in a 6-0 victory over Princeton on Saturday. The two shutouts give Mazzotta eight for the season, surpassing the single-season mark of six, held by Kathryn LoPresti in 1988.
With the win against Princeton on Saturday, the Big Red also clinched at least a share of the Ivy League title, Cornell's first since 1999. The Big Red is tied with Harvard atop the Ivy League standings, though Cornell has yet to play Yale and Brown, with Harvard having completed all 10 of its league games.
Mazzotta previously earned the league's top goaltender honor after she backstopped the Big Red to a pair of wins over Harvard and Dartmouth on Oct. 30-31, 2009.
The Big Red is also still alive in the race for its first ECAC Hockey crown, standing three points behind league-leading Clarkson with four games remaining. Cornell also has a four-point cushion over fifth-place Quinnipiac and Rensselaer in its quest for home ice in the first round of the ECAC Hockey tournament.
The Big Red returns to action on Friday, traveling to Brown for a 7 p.m. contest, before facing Yale in a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday in New Haven, Conn.
