ITHACA, N.Y. -- On the eve of their second straight NCAA tournament appearance together, senior shortstop Alyson Intihar and junior pitcher have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic second-team all-region squad. It is the third time Intihar has been a second-team all-region pick, while Dalrymple made her second straight appearance.
Intihar, a first-team NFCA all-region pick in 2007 and 2009, has earned Ivy League Player of the Year each of the last two years. The perfect example of a player who is a complete package, Intihar spearheads an offense at the top of the lineup that ranked first in the conference in batting by 30 percentage points, runs scored and base hits by more than 20 percent over the next best team, conference highs in doubles and home runs and conference lows in strikeouts. Intihar enters NCAA tournament play batting .374 with 68 hits, 42 runs scored and a .413 on-base percentage. She had slugged seven doubles and a pair of home runs while driving in 18. Intihar is the toughest player in Division I to strike out this season, going down just twice in 182 at bats. She led the conference in hits, finished second in runs, third in batting average, fifth in total bases (83) and seventh in on-base percentage. A one-time Ivy Player of the Week award winner, she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team. Intihar will graduate as the school and the conference's career leader in hits (256) and runs scored (175) and in the top 10 in batting average (.379) and doubles (47). She is also widely regarded as one of the top defensive players at any position in the Ancient Eight.
Dalrymple was named the conference's top pitcher for the second consecutive year. The unanimous pick to the All-Ivy first team is 21-5 with a 1.80 ERA and a school-record 212 strikeouts in 175.0 innings pitched this season. Dalrymple was even better in Ivy play, going 11-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 103 strikeouts. She has allowed opponents to hit just .222 against her while pitching 21 complete games and five shutouts. Included was a seven-inning no-hitter against Penn earlier this year which helped earn her Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors. She ranks first in the conference in wins, innings pitched and complete games and second in strikeouts, ERA and opponent's batting average. With another season to play in the Big Red uniform, she already ranks among the top 20 in career wins (44), strikeouts (436) and ERA (1.79) in Ivy history.
Cornell opens up NCAA play tomorrow when it faces 10th-seeded Arizona at 9 p.m. ET in Tucson, Ariz.
