2010 Cornell Men's Soccer Schedule

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Eight home games and three games against teams that made the 2009 NCAA College Cup highlight the 2010 Cornell men's soccer schedule, announced on Thursday by head coach Jaro Zawislan. The Big Red will open the campaign on Sept. 4 at Long Island.

Cornell's first home game will be two days later when the Big Red plays host to Hartwick, which advanced to the Mid-American Conference championship game last season before falling to eventual national runner-up Akron. Cornell will then make a trip to Burlington, Vt., to take part in the Smith Barney Classic, facing New Hampshire on Friday afternoon before taking on the host Catamounts on Sunday.

Three straight home games follow, with the Big Red taking on Buffalo, Canisius and Syracuse in the span of six days. Cornell faced Canisius and Syracuse last season, earning a draw at Canisius and falling to the Orange in the season opener. A single game at Binghamton rounds out the month of September before the Big Red opens up Ivy League play on Oct. 2 against Penn at Berman Field.

Cornell then battles Harvard, which advanced to the third round of the 2009 NCAA College Cup before falling to Maryland, on Oct. 9 in Cambridge, Mass. A non-league game at central New York rival Colgate follows three days later before the Big Red takes on Yale on Oct. 16. Cornell then takes to the road to face Lafayette to wrap up non-league play on Oct. 19 before heading to face Brown in Providence, R.I., four days later. Brown advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last year before falling to national semifinalist North Carolina.

The Big Red closes out the home slate of Ivy League games with contests against Princeton on Oct. 30 and Dartmouth on Nov. 6 at Berman Field, with Dartmouth being the third of the three NCAA tournament teams from last season that the Big Red will face in 2010. The regular season ends on Oct. 13 when Cornell takes on Columbia in New York City.

In Zawislan's first season in 2009, the Big Red finished 6-6-5, the first time since 2001 that Cornell has been at or above .500. The Big Red lose just three letterwinners from last season's squad as it looks to claim a place in the top half of the Ivy League.
