WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – John Redos, a rising sophomore on the Cornell men's lightweight rowing team, earned a berth to the United States Under-23 national team this past weekend after participating at the 2010 Under 23 World Championships Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Redos' crew is one of 15 selected to represent the U.S. at the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, held from July 22-25 in Brest, Belarus.

“I am very excited to represent the United States, Vesper and Cornell this summer at Belarus,” said Redos. “This all was a crazy dream about a month ago and I cannot believe that now it is reality. Cornell's rowing program has helped prepare me more than I could have ever imagined and I look forward to sharing my travel stories this August.”

Redos qualified in the lightweight men's quadruple sculls as a part of the Camp/Vesper crew. His boat, which included Steve Cutler (Princeton), Erich Schultze (Harvard) and Tobin McGee (WPI) won its qualifying race in a time of 5:59.054, more than 18 seconds ahead of the Penn A.C. boat that finished second.

“This is the second year in a row that a Cornell lightweight rower has earned a spot on the United States Under-23 National Rowing Team,” said Chris Kerber, the Robert B. Tallman '41 Head Coach of Men's Lightweight Rowing. “For John, this is an excellent opportunity to gauge himself against competition outside of Cornell, our league and the USA. The coaching staff are elated for John's athletic achievements in his first year of rowing for Cornell.”
