ITHACA, N.Y. – Tony Bresky, The Director of Intercollegiate Tennis and the Richard Savitt and Stephen Weiss Men's Tennis Coach at Cornell University, has announced the addition of two new members to his coaching staff as Houston Barrick and Cory Parr will join the Big Red for the 2010-11 season. Barrick has been hired as an assistant coach, while Parr joins Cornell as a volunteer assistant coach.

Both Barrick and Parr were standout players in the ACC, with Barrick playing on three National Indoor championship teams at Virginia and Parr earning Wake Forrest’s first-ever national title with a doubles championship at the 2008 National Indoors.

“Houston played for me at Virginia for four years so I know exactly what type of person and role model he will be for our kids,” said Bresky. “I’m thrilled that he is joining me at Cornell in hopes of building a program that the University and community will be proud of. He was an outstanding player and leader at UVA, a two-time captain who played as high as #1 singles and doubles for us. However, I think his most remarkable achievement is that in four years the team he played on never lost an ACC match and I believe a lot of our success was due in large part to his leadership. I expect him to play a big role in the development of our program and feel fortunate to have him on our staff”

“I am very honored and excited to join the tennis program here at Cornell,” added Barrick. “Cornell has such a rich tradition both academically and athletically. I am really looking forward to working alongside Tony. I played for Tony and I know he will be just as successful here at Cornell. This season should be a lot of fun, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the guys both on and off the court.”

A four-year starter at Virginia, Barrick was a two-time team captain and posted a 60-0 record in the ACC over his four seasons. He played as high as No. 1 in both singles and doubles at UVA and helped the Cavaliers to a 140-6 record during his career. Individually, Barrick finished his time at UVA with a singles record of 102-31 and doubles record of 115-34. A two-time NCAA All-Tournament Team selection, he was also named the 2010 ACC Tournament MVP and was selected to the All-ACC first team following his senior season. Barrick ranked as high as No. 2 in doubles competition and No. 50 in singles. An outstanding student, he was also a member of the All-ACC Academic Team in 2009 and 2010.

Barrick went to Virginia following a standout junior career in which he achieved a No. 1 ranking in the USTA boys’ 18s singles rankings and was named a top 10 recruit in the class of 2007. He earned a Gold Ball by winning the 2006 USTA 18s Spring National Championship and a Silver Ball by finishing second in doubles at the event. Barrick also won numerous sportsmanship awards as a junior player, including the prestigious Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award from the USTA.

He graduated from UVA in 2010 with a degree in government.

“Cory was an outstanding player at Wake Forest and as a coach I competed against him for four years,” said Bresky. “I was always very impressed with Cory, not only as a player but as a competitor. Last summer Cory was on the USTA college summer team which I coached and I got to know him even more. I am very excited that he will be joining us at Cornell. Cory has great passion for the sport of tennis. He will be a great addition to our staff and I know he will be an excellent example and role model for our team.”

“I’m excited to be a part of the Cornell tennis program,” added Parr. “Growing up in Long Island, N.Y., I have always had great respect for Cornell and its academic reputation. I think that with Tony’s coaching ability and experience from Virginia, the Cornell tennis team will reach new heights. I’m looking forward to getting on the court with the players and helping them improve their games. It’s an exciting time to be a part of Cornell tennis.”

Parr was a two-time All-American at Wake Forrest and played at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. He graduated as the third-highest winning singles player in program history, posting more than 100 win in both singles and doubles. He reached as high as No. 1 in doubles and No. 10 in singles in the national rankings and earned 12 Futures doubles titles. He was a two-time first-team All-ACC selection and was named the ACC Player of the Week four times during his career.

As a junior player, Parr ranked as high as No. 6 in the USTA boys’ 18s singles rankings. He reached the quarterfinals of the 2003 National Hard Courts tournament and placed third at the National Clay Courts that same year.

Parr currently holds an ATP doubles ranking of No. 284, but has been ranked as high as No. 272. He also has had an ATP career-high ranking of No. 779 in singles.

He graduated from Wake Forest in 2009 with a a bachelor of arts degree in sociology.
