TROY, N.Y. -- Six different players scored a goal as the Cornell women's hockey team picked up a 6-1 win over Rensselaer on Friday night at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. Freshman
Jessica Campbell led the way with four points on the night, collecting a goal and three assists.
Catherine White,
Chelsea Karpenko and
Alyssa Gagliardi also had multi-point nights for the Big Red (16-1, 11-0 ECAC Hockey), with White and Karpenko picking up three points and Gagliardi recording a pair. White, Karpenko, Gagliardi,
Laura Fortino,
Brianne Jenner and
Lauriane Rougeau each scored a goal, with
Rebecca Johnston and
Karlee Overguard tallying assists.
Lauren Slebodnick made 15 saves in picking up her third straight win, while the Big Red went 2-for-4 with the man advantage on the night.
Kristen Jakubowski scored the lone goal for the Engineers (8-8-6, 6-4-1 ECAC Hockey), with Andie LeDonne picking up the only assist on the play. Sonja van der Bliek made 32 saves on 38 shots before coming out of the contest in favor of Shannon Ramelot, who stopped all three shots she faced in the final 6:18 of the contest. The Engineers were held scoreless in three power-play chances on the night.
Cornell took the lead late in the first period when Gagliardi chipped the puck up to Karpenko just across the blue line. Karpenko then sent a puck to Campbell in the neutral zone, and Campbell skated into the RPI zone and sent a slap shot over the shoulder of van der Bliek with just 22 seconds to play in the period.
In the second, Cornell scored a pair of quick goals, with Jenner scoring at the 21 second mark of the period and Rougeau tallying her goal at the 1:08 mark of the period. Jenner got a puck from Overguard and ripped a shot from the top of the circle that beat van der Bliek. Rougeau's goal was a wrap-around after taking the puck from White, giving the Big Red a 3-0 lead.
After Jakubowski scored to cut the lead to 3-1, White added to the margin at the 11:17 mark of the period, collecting a pass from Karpenko and sending a wrist shot past van der Bliek. Gagliardi capped off the four-goal second period, firing a shot from the top of the slot as the Big Red closed out the second period with a 5-1 lead.
In the third, Fortino added to the margin with her fifth goal of the year, following up her own shot to chip home the rebound at the 13:42 mark of the third period.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday, taking on Union in a 4 p.m. contest at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.
