ITHACA, N.Y. – Four players have been named captains for the 2011-12 women's hockey season, the team announced Monday.

Seniors Rebecca Johnston, Catherine White, Chelsea Karpenko and Amanda Young will all be wearing 'C's on their uniforms this year.

Johnston, who won an Olympic Gold Medal with the Canadian National Team in 2010, is a two-time Second Team All-America, a two-time Patty Kazmaier Award Top 10 Finalist and a three-time first teamer for the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey. She has 67 goals and 60 assists throughout her Cornell career and 11 game-winning goals entering her final year with the program.

White, the 2010 ECAC Hockey Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-America in 2010, did even better in her junior campaign statistically with 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points. White has played for Canada's under-18 and under-22 national teams and was the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year during her freshman season.

Karpenko is coming off a 2011 season that saw her named to the Ivy League's first team and ECAC Hockey's second team. She scored 23 goals and earned 25 assists, racking up a +34 rating in the process. She currently stands at 50 career goals and 50 career assists. The Winnipeg native represented her country at the MLP Cup last year.

Young, who sings the national anthem before every game, is starting her fourth year on the Cornell roster after earning All-Tournament honors in the ECAC Tournament last year. She played a huge role on a defense that led the country in scoring last year and finished the season on a five-game points scoring streak. She had two assists in the Big Red's 2010 NCAA Tournament game against Harvard and represented ECAC Hockey in an all-star game against the U.S. National Team that same year.

Cornell's season begins on Tuesday, Oct. 26 with a road trip to ECAC and local rival Colgate. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
