Lauren Frazier won the B Singles title, and classmate
Rosemary Li took home the C Singles crown, and the doubles team of junior
Christine Ordway and freshman
Courtney Malinchak topped the B Doubles field at the Cornell Winter Invitational for women's tennis on Sunday.
The Big Red won three of the five titles at the three-day event, which had no team scores and featured competitors from Cornell, Army, Binghamton, Colgate and Columbia.
The B and C Singles championship matches pitted Big Red competitors against each other. Frazier was the fourth seed the B bracket, defeating third-seeded classmate
Gabby Sullivan, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Li also defeated a fellow Cornell freshman,
Kirsten Kohagen, 3-6, 7-6(5), (10-7) to win the C bracket. Ordway and Malinchak, who were seeded second in the B Doubles field, defeated the top-seeded tandem of Columbia's Katerina Kovacevic and Crystal Leung in Sunday's champion, 8-6.
The Big Red also had representatives in the other two championships held Sunday. In A Doubles, Columbia's top-seeded team of Bianca Sanon and Tiana Takenaga won by illness default over Cornell's
Nina Turudic and
Ryann Young. Ordway also reached the A Singles final as the fourth seed, but fell to the second-seeded Sanon in the title match, 6-2, 6-4.
Cornell kicks off the team portion of its schedule next week with a pair of home matches. Maryland-Baltimore County visits Reis Tennis Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, followed by a match with Temple at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5.
