ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's track and field team came away with the team title in New York City on Saturday evening at the Armory in a competitive meet that included Heps rivals Princeton and Harvard. Scoring 158.5 points, the women had three event wins and five runner-up showings along with 18 ECAC qualifying performances and a school record en route to their team victory.

Senior co-captain Melissa Hewitt led the way with a victory in the 200 in an ECAC-qualifying 24.69 after earlier finishing second in the 60 in 7.62. Fellow co-captain Molly Glantz also performed very well and ran a seasonal best in the 800 of 2:10.31 to place second.

A big event for the Big Red was the 1000, where junior Alyssa O'Connor led the way with a first-place first run of 2:50.68. Cornell took three of the next four places as everyone dipped under the ECAC standard with new personal bests: sophomore Lauren Lloyd (third, 2:52.08), sophomore Dale Kinney (fourth, 2:54.07) and junior Liz Reamer (fifth, 2:54.43).

Another significant highlight for Cornell came in the shot put as junior Victoria Imbesi broke her own school record with a mark of 48' 0 3/4”, the third meet this season she's been over the 48-foot mark. Senior Erin Rossi also did well, setting a seasonal best of 52' 2 3/4” in the weight throw, mere inches from the ECAC standard. Also hitting the ECAC standard in the field was senior Sam Brady, who broke through with a third-place clearance of 11' 9 3/4” in the pole vault. Junior Claire Dishong was fifth at 11' 5 3/4”. And in the high jump, junior Ailish Hanly had a seasonal best to place fourth in a fine 5' 5 1/4”.

The senior hurdling tandem of Dani Silas and Taylor Baird were great as both set or equaled their career bests and hit the ECAC standard for the first time this season. Silas placed second (and was the top college finisher) in 8.73, equaling her best, which is fourth all-time at Cornell. Baird was third in 8.77. In the prelims, Baird ran 8.76 seconds, which is tied for No. 5 all-time at Cornell.

The Big Red also had some very good competitive efforts, and four ECAC qualifying performances, in the mile and 3000. Senior Janel Parker placed second in the mile in a season-best 4:54.47 and sophomore Emmy Shearer set a new personal best to place fourth in 4:55.64. In the 3K, sophomore Rachel Sorna set a personal best by six seconds to finish third in a terrific 9:46.70, and junior Kate Rosettie had a great race to set a personal best of 9:56.65 for fifth. Also racing well in these events were a pair of seniors: Meghan Brown was seventh in the mile in a seasonal best 5:00.43, and Shelby Herman ran great to place ninth in 10:11.80.

Cornell had very good efforts in the relays as the 4x800 of Lloyd, Shearer, Kinney and Parker ran a seasonal best of 9:07.21 for third. The 4x400 of sophomore Ebolutalese Airewele, senior Kelsey Reimnitz, freshman Katie Woodford and freshman Zena Kolliesuah ran 3:47.47 for third as both teams bettered the ECAC standard.

The Cornell women also had scoring efforts from Katie Woodford (second, 25.27), Kolliesuah (fourth, 25.65) and Airewele (seventh, 25.67) in the 200, Reimnitz (fourth, 57.26) and Kolliesuah (sixth, 57.72) in the 400, sophomore Zaakirah Daniels (eighth, 9.46 in the 60 hurdles after a 9.07 seasonal best in the prelims), sophomore Anjelique Parnell (fourth, 18' 2 1/2”), junior Becky DeLong (sixth, 17' 7 1/2”) and sophomore Dominique Corley (eighth, 17' 6 1/4”) in the long jump and junior Savannah Johnson (eighth, 17' 6 1/4”) in the triple jump.

Next up for the Big Red is a return trip to Penn State on Saturday, where the team will compete in another scored meet, the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup.
