Miller Named Ivy League Men's Basketball Player of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell sophomore Shonn Miller has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Big Red to a 2-1 record on the week, including a tournament title in the Upper Bracket of the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. Miller, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2011-12, picked up his first Player of the Week honor of his career.

An all-tournament selection, Miller averaged 12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 62 percent from the field, 60 percent from 3-point range and 89 percent from the free-throw line. He opened the week with a 13-point, 12-rebound effort against then-unbeaten Arizona State in Tempe, adding three steals while making 4-of-6 shots. He was again in double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals in an easy victory over Presbyterian before connecting for 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block in 25 minutes against Longwood. He hit both three-pointers as well as 4-of-4 free throws against the Lancers in the Upper Bracket championship game.

For the season, Miller is averaging 9.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.9 blocks and 1.4 assists per game while connecting on 46 percent of his shots overall and 90 percent from the free-throw line. He ranks in the top 10 in the Ivy League in rebounding (seventh), field goal percentage (10th), free-throw percentage (fifth), steals (fifth), blocks (fourth) and defensive rebounds (third, 5.6).
