ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior Kurt Ondash and sophomore Andrew Nelson have been named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District team for District I it was announced today. The trio joins 10 other Ivy League players who will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America. Both are first-time selections to the all-district squad.
A preseason third-team FCS All-American by Beyond Sports College Network, Ondash has 657 receiving yards in 2012, a mark that ranks 19th in a season in school history. He became 18th receiver in Cornell history to surpass 1,000 career yards with his 10-catch, 92-yard effort in the season opener at Fordham and caught nine passes for 136 yards against Dartmouth. He now ranks seventh on the school's career receiving list with 1,575 yards. Ondash also posted 100-yard games at Bucknell (seven catches, 118 yards) and at Brown (12 catches, 147 yards). He ranks 19th nationally in receptions per game (6.7 rpg.) and 43rd in receiving yards per game (74.4 ypg.). Those marks rank fourth and sixth in the Ivy League, respectively. Ondash caught two touchdown passes in the win over Yale. He was a second-team All-Ivy League pick in 2011. In the classroom, Ondash has posted a 3.58 grade point average in Applied Economics & Management.
Nelson ranks among the team leaders with 52 tackles, six pass breakups and two interceptions so far in 2012. He posted nine tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Dartmouth, had 12 tackles and an interception in the win over Princeton and had six stops and a pick in the win over Yale. Nelson made nine tackles and broke up two passes at No. 23 Harvard. A year ago, Nelson led the team's freshmen with 55 tackles and ranked atop the entire team with four pass breakups in 2011. He ranked 16th in the conference in tackles per game in Ivy contests (6.6 per game). Nelson sports a 3.48 grade point average and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
