ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell senior forward
Chelsea Karpenko has been named a finalist for ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Forward Award, the league announced Thursday.
Karpenko, having spent most of the year as the right win on Cornell's second forward line, has scored 27 points this season on 16 goals and 11 assists. In conference-only games, Karpenko's 18 points put her 20th in the league.
Karpenko led the team with six power-play goals this season and has also netted three game-winners. On the defensive side, Karpenko is a physical player who rarely lets opponents get past her. She blocks shots regularly and is part of a Big Red roster that gave up a league-low 28 goals in 28 goals in conference play.
The senior was named to the Ivy League's First Team and ECAC Hockey's Second Team last season.
Along with Karpenko, Dartmouth's Reagan Fischer and Rensselaer's Alisa Harrison are the other finalists for the league's Best Defensive Forward Award. The award winner will be announced next Thursday at a banquet before the conference's tournament semifinals.
