ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Big Red wrestling team is in fourth place heading into the finals on Saturday night. Senior
Frank Perrelli capped off his stellar Cornell career with a fourth place finish at 125 pounds, while unseeded sophomore
Mike Nevinger muscled his way to a seventh place All-America honor at 141 pounds.
At 125 pounds, Perrelli opened the day with a 10-3 decision over Ryan Mango of Stanford to move to the third place round. Perrelli notched the first take down against No. 2 Zack Sanders of Minnesota, but the Gopher wrestler escaped to come within a point. Both wrestlers escaped from their starting down positions in their respective periods. Sanders notched a takedown late in the third to take the lead, but Perrelli escaped to tie the match at 4-4. Sanders took him down once again to win in sudden victory, 6-4. Perrelli concludes his Cornell career with a 110-41 record. The Big Red senior ranks 12
th in the Big Red career record books in wins.
Nevinger wrapped up his sophomore season with a match for seventh place against North Carolina State's Darrius Little. Nevinger racked up a 5-0 lead over the eighth seeded wrestler with a takedown and three back points. He continued to dominate his opponent on his way to a 10-3 decision to take seventh place.
Cornell will have a school record three wrestlers in the finals tonight at 6:30 p.m. CST.
Kyle Dake will wrestle No. 2 Derek St. John of Iowa at 157 pounds in search of his third NCAA title in as many years. Junior
Steve Bosak will take on No. 6 Quentin Wright of Penn State at 184 pounds, while senior
Cam Simaz will cap off his Big Red career in the finals against No. 2 Chris Honeycutt of Edinboro. All matches will be broadcast live on ESPN.
