Four Women's Hockey Players Earn Trip to Hockey Canada's Selection Camp

ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Cornell women's hockey players have been named to Hockey Canada's selection camp in anticipation of the 2012 World Championships.

Forwards Rebecca Johnston and Brianne Jenner join defensemen Laura Fortino and Lauriane Rougeau on the selection camp roster.

All four of those players took part in the 4 Nations Cup in November with the Canadian National Team. All told, 18 of the 29 players at selection camp were on the Canadian Roster at the 4 Nations Cup. Johnston won an Olympic gold medal with Team Canada in 2010, and all four players were Patty Kazmaier nominees this season.

Cornell coach Doug Derraugh will also be at the selection camp as an assistant coach.

Selection camp activities begin Tuesday, and the Canadian roster will play exhibition games against Midget AAA boys' teams before a March 31 showdown against the United States.

The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship will begin on April 7 in Burlington, Vt., with Canada playing an exhibition against the Swedish team on April 5. Preliminary rounds of the tournament will be held on April 7, 8 and 10, while the championship will be awarded on April 14.
