ITHACA, N.Y. – Saturday's women's lacrosse game against Yale will feature a halftime celebration in honor of the 10-year anniversary of the 2002 women's lacrosse season.
That season, the best in school history, saw the Big Red advance to the national semifinals for the only time. Cornell held a record of 16-2 that season, defeating No. 16 Syracuse and No. 8 Maryland in the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament before falling to No. 2 Georgetown in overtime in the Final Four.
That season, head coach
Jenny Graap was named the National Coach of the Year by the IWLCA, and four players earned All-America honors at various levels.
On Saturday, eight members of that 2002 team will be returning to Ithaca to mark the 10-year anniversary of their terrific season. Coming back will be Sarah Fischer Anderson '03, Katie McCorry Cadman '02, Lori Wohlschlegel Curry '02, Kari Zarzecki Habay '02, Abby Beyer Jones '03, Sarah Graham Needham '02, Carrie Giancola Wasileski '02, and Ivy League Player of the Year Jaimee Reynolds '02.
The Big Red's game against Yale begins at noon, and just before the game this year's group of nine seniors will be honored for their contributions to the Big Red program. The 2002 players will make their way onto the field at halftime.
