PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second consecutive week, Cornell freshman forward
Nia Marshall has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after helping the Big Red to a victory over Binghamton, before falling to St. Francis (N.Y.). Marshall is the first Cornell women's basketball player to receive back-to-back Rookie of the Weeks awards since Jeomi Maduka in 2005-06 and the first Cornell player to receive two Rookie of the Week awards in a single season since Lauren Benson in 2006-07.
Marshall has scored in double-figures in five straight games, leading the Big Red to a 3-2 mark during that stretch. In two games last week, Marshall averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals. She also shot 44.4 percent from the field (8-of-18) and 73.3 percent from the free throw line (11-of-15), including a 4-of-4 performance against the Bearcats. During that game, she also recorded a career-best six steals.
The Big Red has just begun a 14-day layoff for the Cornell exam period but will be back in action when it travels to Robert Morris on Saturday, Dec. 21 for a contest at 1:30 p.m.
