Dake and Garrett Win Top Ivy Wrestling Awards, 10 Earn All-Ivy

ITHACA, N.Y.—Cornell wrestling's Kyle Dake has been named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year, while freshman Nahshon Garrett is Ivy League Rookie of the Year. The league announced its annual awards on Wednesday, and 10 Big Red wrestlers earned All-Ivy honors at nine different weight classes. Joining Dake and Garrett on the First-Team All-Ivy list are senior Steve Bosak and sophomore Jacob Aiken-Phillips.

Three-time NCAA champion Dake earns his first Ivy League Wrestler of the Year title unanimously this season after pinning all five of his Ancient Eight opponents. Dake is the fifth-straight Cornell wrestler to earn the honor, but the first unanimous selection since Mack Lewnes '11 in 2008-09.

The Dake and Garrett sweep of the post season awards marks the first time that one team has won both awards since 2009-10, when Lewnes shared Wrestler of the Year honors with J.P. O'Connor (Harvard), and Dake was named Rookie of the Year. This year marks the first time since 2008-09 that one team is the single recipient of both awards.

Chris Villalonga (149) and Stryker Lane (HWT) earn second-team All-Ivy honors, while Bricker Dixon (133), Mike Nevinger (141), Jesse Shanaman (157) and Jace Bennett (197) are honorable mention All-Ivy.

Dake (Ithaca, N.Y.) earns first-team All-Ivy honors for the third time in his career. He finishes his career against the Ancient Eight with a 15-0 record, including 14 bonus wins. Dake has 10 pins, two tech falls and two major decisions in those bonus victories. The Big Red senior is 28-0 this season and is ranked No. 1 in the country at 165 pounds as he continues on his quest for his fourth NCAA title.
Garrett (Chico, Calif.) is Cornell's 13th Rookie of the Year recipient, and the first since Dake in 2009-10. Garrett was a perfect 5-0 in Ivy League contests this season at 125 pounds. He notched four major decisions against the Ancient Eight and is the first Cornell freshman to be named first-team All-Ivy since Dake in 2009-10. Garrett is 34-4 this season and leads the team in wins and major decisions with 11. He also ranks third in the country in tech falls with seven.

Bosak (State College, Pa.) earns his third-straight first-team All-Ivy honor this season. The Big Red senior is 17-2 overall this season and was a perfect 5-0 in conference action. Bosak notched two falls and a major decision against the Ancient Eight.

Aiken-Phillips (Lawrenceville, Ga.) went 3-0 in Ivy action this season with one fall. This marks his first career All-Ivy honor. The Big Red sophomore is 15-8 for the season with five falls and two major decisions.

The Cornell wrestling team won its 11th straight Ivy League title this season and increased its streak to 58 straight wins over the Ancient Eight. Cornell's 11 consecutive Ivy titles comprise the longest current streak of any Ivy team in any sport.
