DAVIDSON, N.C. — Sophomore Kevin Tatum blasted his first two collegiate home runs, including a three-run shot in the seventh inning to complete the baseball team's come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Davidson on Tuesday. It's the third consecutive victory for Cornell (7-5), which wraps up the two-game set against the Wildcats at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Big Red bullpen was particularly sharp, surrendering just one earned one in 7.1 innings of work. Freshman Matt Horton earned his first collegiate victory with 1.2 innings of relief, and reigning All-Ivy League Rookie of the Year Kellen Urbon locked down his second save of the season by recording the final four outs.

Cornell (7-5) was trailing 8-5 through five innings. Tatum led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to right, cutting the deficit to two runs. He then gave the Big Red the lead with a three-run homer with two out in the seventh inning.

Junior Ben Swinford followed Tatum's shot with a single to left, then advanced to second on a throwing error. Senior Brenton Peters followed with a double to right-center to drive in Swinford for the eventual winning run. Peters was 3-for-4 with two doubles.

For the fourth time in the last five games, the Big Red opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. JD Whetsel, who was named Ivy League Player of the Week earlier Tuesday, led off the game with a walk and stole second. Tom D'Alessandro followed with another walk. A double steal ensued, and a throwing error by the catcher allowed Whetsel to score.

After a one-out Spenser Souza single advanced D'Alessandro to third, the Big Red shortstop scored on Ryan Plantier's double to left. Tatum then hit a sacrifice fly to left to plate Souza for his first of five RBIs on the day.

Davidson stormed ahead with a three-run second inning, then the teams traded two-run third innings. Swinford drove in the Big Red's runs with a two-run single up the middle, scoring D'Alessandro and sophomore Matt Hall.
