ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Danielle Letourneau, senior
Jaime Laird and junior
Jessenia Pacheco were named to the All-American teams by the Women's College Squash Association on Friday. The Big Red is the only team in the country with three All-Americans, with Harvard and Penn having four apiece.
Letourneau has been named a First Team All-American for the second time, finishing the season ranked seventh in the nation by the College Squash Association. Also a two-time All-Ivy League Team winner, Letourneau was once again used exclusively in the No. 1 position by the Big Red, where she was 9-7. She was particularly strong early in the season, when she won six of her first seven matches — including a four-game clash with Pamela Chua of Stanford in the Big Red's 5-4 victory over the rival Cardinal. Letourneau qualified for the College Squash Association Individual Championships for a second straight season, competing in the top-flight Ramsay Cup. She defeated Yale's Katie Ballaine and Penn's Nabilla Ariffin to advance to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual nation champion Amanda Sobhy, of Harvard.
Laird has been named a Second Team All-American for the second time in her collegiate career, with the first occurrence coming after her sophomore season in 2011. She was 12-5 in team matches, which tied her for the team lead in individual victories with Pacheco and
Abbey Foster. Four of those wins came in five-game matches, including a clash with Madeleine Gill of Stanford in the consolation semifinals of the Howe Cup. The Big Red would go on to win that match, 5-4, and finish sixth in the national rankings for a second straight season. Once again competing exclusively in the top three, Laird qualified for the College Squash Assocation Individual Championships, where she had two victories over Yale's Katie Ballaine and Gwendoline Tilghman in the first-round consolation bracket. Laird finished the season ranked a career-best 19th in the country by the CSA.
Pacheco is also a Second Team All-American, earning the national honor for the first time in her career. She was also an All-Ivy League Team selection earlier this month after posting a 12-4 record as the team's primary No. 2 entry. She started the season by making her only appearance at the No. 1 spot, rolling to a three-game victory over Hamilton's Amanda Thorman to kick off a nine-match winning streak. She won both of her matches against entries from Stanford in 5-4 victories that allowed the Big Red to maintain its No. 6 national ranking for a second consecutive season. Pacheco once again qualified for the top-flight Ramsay Division of the CSA Individual Championships, where she won an opening-round match against Trinity's Ashley Tidman.
