DES MOINES, Iowa -- Cornell had a terrific final weekend at the USATF Senior National Championships at Drake Stadium as three Big Red All-Americans proved to be among the very best in nation and indeed the world.

On Saturday, Olympian and Cornellian Morgan Uceny '07 continued to battle back into top form, finishing eighth in the 1500 final. The pace was unusually slow early on, a function of tactics and extreme temperatures:  breezy conditions and punishing 95 degree weather made things uncomfortable for athletes, officials and spectators alike. Uceny, the two-time defending champion, was in good position with 600 to go but found herself at the back of the pack with a lap to go. Nevertheless, she ran 64.5 from 800 to 1200 and 45.2 for her final 300 meters to pass several people before finishing in 4:31.32.

Uceny now looks forward to a full season of racing in Europe, including a race in Birmingham, England next week. After missing substantial time training in the fall and winter due to injuries suffered at the London Olympics, and then getting sick in May, she's finally healthy and headed for some fast times.

On Sunday, Montez Blair '14 continued his terrific junior year with a truly outstanding third place finish in the high jump, clearing 7-4 1/2. This meet also serves as the selection meet for the IAAF World Championships (to be held in Moscow in August). Qualifying rules are complicated but in general, the U.S. can send three athletes per (provided their seasonal bests also hit the World Championships criteria) and if Blair is able to improve his personal best by one centimeter by July 20 he can be added to Team USA! Blair has already been selected to represent the United States at the World University Games in Moscow in July so he will have a few more opportunities to hit the IAAF standard in the coming weeks. He had a great day on Sunday, clearing 7-0 1/2 on his first attempt. was over 7-2 1/2 on his second and cleared 7-4 /12 on his first attempt before missing at 7-5 1/2. The four time All-American once again stepped up big at the USA Championships - he finished seventh last year at the Olympic Trials.

Stephen Mozia '15 finished up a sophomore year in which he earned three All-American honors by placing ninth (only one place removed from the final) in the shot put with a mark of 62-8 3/4. On Friday, he placed 14th in the discus at 183-11.
