Big Red Participate in Third Annual Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational

JEJU, KOREA – Five Cornell fencers traveled across the world to Jeju Island, Korea to participate in the third annual Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational (KUEFI) from Aug. 13-15. Hosted by the Korean Collegiate Fencing Federation President and Stanford Fencing Association International President, Jimi K. Jung, the invitational comprised of 120 fencers representing all three weapons from various universities in the United States and Korea. The US contingent consisted of fencers from Brandeis, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Princeton, Stanford, and Penn, while the Korean fencers were represented by Daegu, Daejeon, Dongeui and International University of Korea. 

For the Big Red, seniors April Whitney (foil) and Christine McIntosh (foil), junior Olivia Weller (epee), sophomore Angelica Gangemi (foil), and Audrey Speer '13 (sabre) all participated in the event. 

In the Individual Events, Gangemi was the Big Red's top finisher, taking fifth overall in the women's foil, while Whitney and McIntosh finished 11th and 14th, respectively.  Weller took 11th overall in the women's epee competition and Speer finished in 15th place in women's saber.
