ITHACA, N.Y. -- The seeds and brackets for the 2014 NCAA Championship were released Wednesday night and the Cornell wrestling team was well-represented. The Big Red had seven of their eight NCAA qualifiers seeded in the top 16 of their weight class.

The eighth was two-time All-American Mike Nevinger.

Cornell's outstanding depth will be on display and, at the same time, will be greatly tested as the pairings  for next weekend's championship meet at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.

At 125 pounds, Garrett was a surprise No. 2 seed after spending much of the season as the consensus No. 1 wrestler. Jesse Delgado, who handed the Big Red his only loss, and the defending national champ took the top seed. Instead, Garrett will open with Hofstra's Jamie Franco, who he has defeated twice akready this season. Garrett could meet Pitt's Anthony Zanetta in the second round and EIWA foe David Terao, who he has knocked off three times this season, in the second round.

Grey is the No. 15 seed at 133 and will open with Michigan's Rosario Bruno, and with a win would meet No. 2 seed AJ Schopp of Edinboro or Navy's Colton Rasche. Grey won a narrow 3-2 decision over Bruno in a meeting earlier this season at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

At 141, two-time All-American Mike Nevinger will open his tournament against seventh-seeded Zach Horan of Central Michigan, with a possible second round opponent in Ivy opponent Todd Preston of Harvard. Nevinger was the All-Ivy League first team selection, but it was Preston who won the EIWA title.

Chris Villalonga is the No. 3 seed at 149 pounds and will open his tournament with Mike Racciato of Pitt and could meet Oregon State's Scott Sakaguchi in the second round. Villalonga and Sakaguchi have already met twice, with the Cornell wrestler winning decisions of 3-2 and 4-1 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Freshman Brian Realbuto will be the No. 7 seed at 157 pounds and will meet Brandon Zeerip of Eastern Michigan in the opener, and with a win would face either 10th-seeded Blaise Butler of Virginia or Rutgers' Anthony Perotti.

The 165-pound bracket features another seeded Cornell rookie, as Dylan Palacio picked up the No. 14 seed. He will wrestler Harrison Hightower of Ohio in the opener and would potentially face either third-seeded Nicholas Sulzer of Virginia or Chris Moon of Virginia Tech in round two.

At 184 pounds, freshman Gabe Dean is the third seed and will square off with Iowa State's Lelund Weatherspoon in the opener and then potentially Michigan State's John Rizqallah in round two. He is on the same side of the bracket as two-time defending champion Ed Ruth of Penn State, who he defeated earlier this season to end an 84-match win streak, and is opposite of Maryland's top seed Jimmy Sheptuck, the only wrestler besides Ruth to hold a win over the Big Red rookie.

Wrapping up Cornell's contingent is EIWA champion Jace Bennett, the 10th seed at 197 pounds. Bennett will be looking for his first NCAA win when he faces Conner Hartman of Duke before potentially No. 7 seed Travis Rutt of Oklahoma or Brandon Palik of Drexel.
