SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Two-time women's soccer captain
Tori Christ has recently broken the professional barrier, landing a spot on the reserve team for the Boston Breakers of the National Women's Soccer League.
Christ, a senior goalkeeper, wrapped up her Big Red career in the fall with a 3-1-1 record, 1.06 goals-against average and two shutouts in her final collegiate season. As the team's undisputed starting keeper in 2012, she had 88 saves – which was the highest total among Ivy League competitors and was the 11th-highest single-season total in Big Red program history.
Despite seeing only two years of significant playing time, Christ is the program's only two-time winner of the Randy May Coaches' Award, which is given to the player who best demonstrates the spirit and dedication to Cornell soccer shown by Randy May, the first head coach of the program.
After tryouts this spring with the Western New York Flash and the Boston Breakers, Christ has accepted an invitation to join the Breakers. She will train with the team as her academic schedule allows, and will have an opportunity to join the Breakers' main squad as the season progresses.
The second-year National Women's Soccer League is the top professional women's soccer league in the country, featuring nine teams. The Breakers, who play their home games in Harvard Stadium, will open the 2014 season on Sunday, April 13 at Seattle Reign FC.
