8/25/2014 2:40:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. — Women's Squash Head Coach Julee Devoy announced today that five freshmen will join the team for the 2014-15 season. The Big Red will return seven letterwinners from last season, hoping to build on sixth-place finishes at the College Squash Association's Howe Cup in each of the last three seasons. The five newcomers are Michèle Garceau, Charlotte Knaggs, Margaux Losty, Emma Uible and Laura Watson.

Garceau joins the Big Red after capturing British Columbia's GU19 provincial championship in 2014. She has also finished third at Canadian Junior Nationals in 2013 and fourth in 2014. Squash BC later presented her with the Massey Goolden Award, which is designated to honor junior players for achievement combined with sportsmanship. As of late July 2014, Garceau was ranked sixth among GU19 in Canada and first in British Columbia.

Knaggs is another player with international experience, having represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in July. She has been on the country's junior national team since 2006 (serving as captain in 2014) and was on the senior national team in 2012. Knaggs was also a two-time Under-17 and two-time Under-19 Junior Caribbean Champion.

Losty was ranked as high as eighth in the US Squash GU19 junior rankings and advanced into the Round of 16 at the 2014 U.S. Junior Squash Championships. She was once the top-ranked junior in the country in the GU17 division.  She competed in squash, tennis and track & field at Penn Charter, serving as captain for all three teams during her senior season.

Uible finished sixth at the U.S. Junior Squash Championships for two consecutive years, ranking as high as eighth in the GU19 national rankings. She was ranked 19th among all adults in the country at the time of her arrival on East Hill.

Watson played at the No. 1 position and served as captain for both her junior and senior seasons at The Hotchkiss School. She was a three-time winner of the Hotchkiss Squash Prize and US Squash Scholar-Athlete Award, and she was also a two-time winner of the John C. Virden III '64 Leadership Award.

The Big Red will start its season in November, with the complete schedule expected to be released in the near future.
