ITHACA, N.Y. — Hockey is in the air once again with the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams set to play to in the annual Red-White Game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at Lynah Rink.
 
The Big Red men's team will be looking to reestablish itself as one of the elite programs in ECAC Hockey, a conference which has produced the national champion in two of the last three seasons. Cornell returns its top two goal-scorers from last season in senior forward Christian Hilbrich and junior forward Matt Buckles. Five of the squad's top seven defensemen also return, as do all three goaltenders from a squad which surrendered just 2.19 goals per game. The women's squad currently holds down the No. 10 spot in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/US Hockey Magazine national polls, heading into its first exhibition on Friday night against Western Ontario.
 
The game is free to attend, and the format will include two 30-minute halves, regular power-play situations and a shootout at the end of the contest. The men's teams and women's teams will rotate pairs of shifts.
 
Tickets for door prizes will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the Cornell Hockey Association and the university's Emergency CARE Fund. The Emergency Cornellians Aiding and Responding to Employees (CARE) Fund is a program offering financial assistance to faculty and staff who have experienced a non-recurring sudden or emergency-related financial hardship due to an unforeseen or unavoidable event. Some of the events that fund recipients have endured include house fires, floods and unforeseen medical or funeral expenses. Donations for the Emergency CARE Fund will also be accepted.
