Lightweight 8 Takes Gold, One of Six Medals At Princeton Chase

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Big Red lightweight varsity eight bested the field of 32 entries to win the gold medal this morning at the Princeton Chase as one of six Cornell boats to take home a medal. The Big Red also earned silver medals in the lightweight varsity four and the heavyweight varsity four, while taking bronze in both the heavyweight varsity eight, and the freshmen eight race.
 
In the lightweight varsity eight, Cornell crossed the line in a time of 13:37.970, just over one second ahead of Princeton. The Big Red raced four boats in the event, with the B crew taking 10th, and the C (18th) and D (19th)  crews finishing less than one second apart.
 
The lightweight fours also had a solid day, with the A crew taking the silver behind Yale, while the B crew placed ninth overall. The C crew rounded out the field with a 24th place finish.
 
The men's heavyweight varsity eight had an impressive showing with a third place finish, coming in just one second behind second-place Yale.  In that race, the Cornell B crew placed 17th.
 
The men's heavyweight varsity four took the silver medal behind Boston University, while the B crew placed 12th overall.
 
In the men's freshmen eight, the Cornell heavyweight boat placed third behind Cal and Princeton, while the lightweight freshmen crew took 10th overall.
 
On the women's side, the women's four had the top finish of the day, coming in fourth overall. In that same race, the B crew placed 18th, while the C boat came in 28th overall.
 
In the women's varsity eight, Cornell finished ninth with the B crew (35) and the C boat (44th) rounding out the field.
 
In the women's novice eight race, the Big Red placed eighth overall.
