CornellBigRedTickets.com.
Tickets are not available by phone. They can be purchased at the link above or in person at the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office in Bartels Hall. Questions can be directed to athletictickets@cornell.edu.
The fifth edition of Red Hot Hockey will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, Boston University Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello and Cornell University's Meakem*Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education
Andy Noel announced earlier this week.
The first college hockey event to ever sell out the historic Garden in 2007, Red Hot Hockey also produced sell-out crowds in 2009, 2011 and 2013. The biennial showdown has quickly become the hot event for both schools' hockey-centric fan base.
"It's been fabulous watching Red Hot Hockey turn into one of Terrier Nation's premier events over the past eight years," said Drew Marrochello, Boston University's Director of Athletics. "We're honored to be making another visit to Madison Square Garden with Cornell and look forward to another strong showing from our alumni and fans."
The inaugural Red Hot Hockey event, staged in front of 18,200 passionate students, alumni, parents and fans, was a resounding success. Held on November 24, 2007, it featured members of the 1980 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic hockey team Mike Eruzione, Jack O'Callahan and David Silk from Boston University, as well as NHL Hall of Famer and Cornell alum, Joe Nieuwendyk.
"Our fans, alumni, student-athletes and coaches can't wait to return to New York City for Red Hot Hockey this November," said
Andy Noel, Cornell University's Meakem*Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education. "It's a highlight on every Cornell fan's calendar, and we look forward to renewing one of the oldest and most spirited rivalries in college hockey with Boston University."
Both schools are perennial college hockey powerhouses. Boston University has won the national championship five times (1971, 1972, 1978, 1995 and 2009), while Cornell has claimed the title twice (1967, 1970). Combined, the two schools have produced over 90 NHL players, including the likes of former Rangers captain Chris Drury, Keith Tkachuk and Kevin Shattenkirk (Boston University), as well as Douglas Murray, Ken Dryden and Joe Nieuwendyk (Cornell).
"We are excited for the return of Red Hot Hockey and two of the country's most storied college hockey programs in Boston University and Cornell University," said Joel Fisher, executive vice president, MSG Sports. "The biennial game has sold out each of the previous three match ups and has become a 'must see' for all New York area hockey fans."
The BU–Cornell rivalry began on Jan. 10, 1925, with a 7-2 victory by the Terriers, and includes two match-ups in the NCAA title game (1967, 1972). However, the schools met only sporadically since BU left the ECAC to join Hockey East in 1984-85 before the initial Red Hot Hockey event. Madison Square Garden, home to the NHL's Rangers and NBA's Knicks, will once again serve as the venue to showcase the next chapter in this storied rivalry.
"We're thrilled to continue this exciting event with Boston University at Madison Square Garden," said Cornell head coach
Mike Schafer. "Red Hot Hockey remains a marquee event in college hockey and something that everyone around our program looks forward to."
"We are excited to continue one of the great rivalries in all of college hockey," said Boston University head coach David Quinn. "Red Hot Hockey has been a huge success and we couldn't be happier to keep this Thanksgiving weekend tradition going in New York City with the Big Red. In a lot of ways, this has become our bowl game."
