STORRS, Conn. -- After storming back from as many as four goals and three heading into the final chukker, the Big Red had a lead of its own late in the fourth on Wednesday evening. Texas A&M scored with five seconds remaining to tie and send the national semifinal match to a shootout, where it prevailed 20-19. The Big Red ends its season with a 15-4 record.
Alex Langlois, Ignacio Masias and Nick Stieg started for the second-seeded Big Red and escaped the first chukker tied at 5-5. The Aggies took control in the second, scoring eight goals to take a 13-9 advantage at the break.
Hakan Karabey replaced Langlois for the second half and helped Cornell pull to within two in the third. Cornell controlled most of the chukker but was having trouble finishing goals. The Big Red still trailed 15-12 heading into the fourth. Cornell rallied to tie the match at 15-15, fall behind at 17-15, tied it back again at 17-17 and final went ahead 19-17. The Aggies tied it all up on a penalty shot with less than five seconds left on the clock to send the match to a shootout, where it advanced. Masias led all scorers with 11 goals, Stieg had three, Karabey notched two, Langlois scored one and there were two penalty goals.
