Kelsey Florian Rounds Out Women’s Basketball Staff

ITHACA, N.Y. – Dayna Smith, The Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball, has announced that Kelsey Florian will join her staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2015-16 season. Florian will help with on and off campus recruiting, player development, alumni development, and day-to-day office tasks.

"We are very excited to have Kelsey as part of our staff this season," said Smith. "The past two seasons she has served on the Ithaca College staff as a graduate assistant and was a part of very successful runs deep into the post-season. The fact that Kelsey comes from a strong basketball background and is a passionate young coach makes her a great fit for our program."

Florian comes to East Hill following a successful two-year stint with Ithaca College, where she served as a graduate assistant coach for the Bombers while earning a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences. While at IC, Florian was part of the 2014-15 Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year after helping the Bombers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. During her two seasons on South Hill, Ithaca posted a combined record of 49-11, a pair of Empire 8 regular season championships, and one E8 Tournament championship.

A native of Roseville, Minn., Florian played collegiately at Gustavus Adolphus College. As a senior captain, she scored a career-best 289 points (11.6 ppg) and shot 42.9 percent from the field. Following the season, she was an honorable mention MIAC Conference selection and was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's basketball. Florian had also been named the MIAC Sixth Player of the Year award winner in 2012.

Florian graduated from Gustavus in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Fitness.
