RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- The Cornell men's cross country team finished first at the Brother Jasper Invitational hosted by Manhattan at Van Cortlandt Park to open the 2015 season. Senior
Ben Rainero led the way for the Big Red on the 6.1K course, placing first overall in 19:01.6, a whopping ten seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The meet was scored as separate dual-meets and the Big Red was victorious in all four head-to-head matchups. Cornell defeated Hofstra, Army West Point and host Manhattan 15-50 and won against fellow Ivy League squad Columbia 15-40.
The Big Red swept the top five individual spots, with junior
David Taylor finishing behind Rainero in 19:11.3. Senior captain
Brian Eimstad was hot on his heels, placing third in 19:11.6. Classmate
Connor Herr crossed the line in 19:13.0, good for fourth, while junior
Zack Israel rounded out the top five and Cornell's scoring in 19:16.5.
Sophomores Dominic Deluca (19:33.9) and Samuel Chauvin (19:35.9) finished back-to-back in 15
th and 16
th. Freshman
Tyler Fisher placed in the top 20 in his collegiate debut, taking 18
th in 19:43.2.
