Women's Tennis Takes Six To USTA/ITA Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The women's tennis team will send six competitors to the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, which start with the qualifying rounds on Thursday at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Junior Madison Stevens and freshman Ananya Dua will be competing in the singles qualifying on Thursday, both needing two victories to advance to the main draw. If Dua defeats NJIT's Natacha Minc in the first round at 11 a.m. Thursday, then she would take on the winner of a match between Binghamton's Olga Ostrovetsky and Rhode Island's Taylor Holden. Stevens draws Rhode Island's Tiara Higuchi in the first round and then, if she wins, the victor of a match between Binghamton's Samara Eisenberg and Drexel's Kendra Bunch in the second round. A total of eight qualifying spots are up for grabs in the draw of 32.

Dua and Stevens will be looking to join their four teammates — seniors Marika Cusick and Alexandra D'Ascenzo, junior Priyanka Shah and sophomore Mariko Iinuma — who have already been placed in the main draw, which gets started on Friday morning. Cusick advanced as far as the semifinals in last year's event.

Dua and Stevens are also teaming up in the main draw for doubles, as are the Big Red teams of Cusick and D'Ascenzo, and Iinuma and Shah.
