ITHACA, N.Y. – Two-time 184-pound NCAA champion
Gabe Dean will kick off his senior season by wrestling at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Cleveland State. Dean will wrestle Ohio State's Myles Martin of Ohio State, the 2016 NCAA champion at 174 pounds.
A two-time NCAA champion and three-time All-American, Dean has already amassed one of the great careers in the fabled history of Big Red wrestling. He enters his senior season as a three-time team captain, a three-time EIWA champion, a three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection and a three-time New York State champion with a lofty 117-6 career record.
The 2015 EIWA and Ivy League Wrestler of the Year is one of just four Cornellians to claim multiple NCAA titles in a career. Dean won his second straight crown with a 5-3 win over Nebraska's TJ Dudley in the finals, capping off a 34-1 campaign. He previously had earned Ivy League and EIWA Freshman of the Year accolades in 2014.
Martin won the NCAA title at 174 pounds as a freshman, coming from the No. 11 seed to claim the crown. He finished his rookie season 33-6.
Cornell wrestlers are 6-7 all-time at the NWCA All-Star Classic with Dean earning the most recent Big Red victory, a 5-2 win over Old Dominion's Jack Dechow in Philadelphia in November of 2014.
