ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics posted its second-highest score in team history to claim its second ECAC title while cleaning up on the yearly awards that were handed out on Saturday afternoon at William & Mary.
Freshman
Lyanda Dudley was named ECAC Rookie of the Year,
Kaitlin Green was named Specialist of the Year,
Melanie Dilliplane earned Assistant Coach of the Year for the sixth time and
Paul Beckwith was honored as Coach of the Year for the second time.
The Big Red posted a 193.925, outscoring a six-team field with a mark just .100 off the school record set earlier this season. Cornell had outstanding balance up and down the lineup, surpassing 48.000 or better as a team on all four events for just the fourth time in program history - with three happening this season.
Green tied for the top score on bars (9.825) and Dudley tied atop the podium on beam (9.875) to claim shares of ECAC titles and lead seven individual top five finishers on the day.Â
Malia Mackey tied for second on vault with a 9.800, helping lead a freshman charge for Cornell. Besides Dudley on beam, Green (fourth, 9.825) and Mackey (fifth, 9.800) also placed in the top five, as did
Julohn Teixeira on floor (fifth, 9.775). Dudley was fourth in the all-around race (38.900), just .2 off the school record.
In one of the tightest team races in years, four teams surpassed 193.000 on the day, with the host Tribe and Brown each scoring 193.550 to tie for second.
