HAMDEN, Conn. --- Cornell women's hockey freshman
Micah Hart was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team for the 2015-16 season, the league announced Friday night at the annual awards banquet at the TD Bank Sports Center on the campus of Quinnipiac.
Â
In her rookie season, Hart stood out, finishing the regular season third on the team and first among the team's defensemen with 18 points, including 17 assists. She led both the league's and the nation's freshmen defensemen in points per game for most the second half of the season. Her playmaking ability proved to be a difference-maker for the Big Red this season, with the team going 9-0-1 when she recorded an assist.
Â
Hart posted multiple assists on six occasions, including a career-high three in a crucial 6-4 win over Yale in January. She also set up the play that led to the overtime game-winner in the regular season finale against Harvard, which lifted the Big Red into the playoffs.
In addition to her contributions on the scoresheet, Hart was solid defensively throughout the season, serving on the top defensive pair on the team's power play and penalty kill units. She finished second on the team with 56 blocked shots on the season.
