Women's Polo Topples Regional Rival

Ithaca, N.Y. – Women's polo took traveled to Storrs, Conn. on Sunday to play their first collegiate game of the spring semester and take on their biggest regional rival.  After a fierce battle, the Big Red walked away with a 21-11 win over the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Cornell's starting trio of Elena Wicker, Emma Eldredge, and Anna Winslow began the match a bit slow and gave up three #2 penalties to fall behind 3-1.  Fortunately, the Big Red quickly woke up to score the final three goals of the chukker and ended the first leading 4-3.

The second chukker saw Cornell extend their three goal-scoring streak to 13 before the Huskies scored again.  By the half Cornell was up 14-4.

Cornell continued their aggressive play in the third chukker to enter the fourth with a 19-5 lead.  Claire Stieg replaced Elena Wicker for the fourth while Cornell cruised home with the 21-11 victory.  In total, Winslow tallied 13 goals, Eldredge contributed five, and Wicker added three.  The win completes a weekend sweep of games for the Cornell ladies.
