CALGARY, Alberta —Three members of the women's ice hockey team were selected to the 23-member Canada's National Women's Development Team, Hockey Canada announced on Sunday.
Senior forward
Hanna Bunton, along with sophomore defenseman
Micah Hart and incoming freshman
Kristin O'Neill, were named to the roster after being evaluated at a 10-day selection camp that concluded on Aug. 14 in Calgary, Alberta.
The players will now play the United States U-22 squad in three-game series in Calgary on Aug. 17-21.The series will be used to evaluate the players for selection for future camps and events with Canada's National Women's team and for selection to the team that will compete at the 2017 Nations Cup in Germany in January.
All three skaters have prior experience with Team Canada. Hart and Bunton both won a gold medal with the CNWDT at the 2016 Nations Cup in Füssen, Germany, and O'Neill was a member of the Canadian U-18 squad that won a silver medal at the 2016 IIHF U-18 Women's World Championship in St. Catharines, Ont.
During the 2015-16 season, Bunton led the team in points (27), goals (13) and assists (14), and Hart led all defensemen with one goal and 17 assists for 18 points.
