ITHACA, N.Y. — National Hockey League teams' development camps had a healthy Cornell representation this summer with 15 players past, present and future invited and participating in those camps. The Big Red's 2016-17 roster includes nine of those participating players — which is the highest total in ECAC Hockey.
Each of Cornell's current NHL draft picks went to their respective camps — forwards
Jared Fiegl (Arizona Coyotes),
Beau Starrett (Chicago Blackhawks),
Matt Buckles (Florida Panthers),
Anthony Angello (Pittsburgh Penguins) and
Dwyer Tschantz (St. Louis Blues). The Big Red also had a few free agents invited to participate in camps, including defensemen
Ryan Bliss (Columbus Blue Jackets),
Patrick McCarron (Detroit Red Wings) and
Alec McCrea (Winnipeg Jets). Additionally, senior forward
Jeff Kubiak was the only player in the Ivy League and among just 11 players nationally to participate in two different camps (Arizona Coyotes and New York Islanders).
A total of 29 former Cornell hockey players have gone on to play in the NHL with several already under contract for the 2016-17 season.
