Five Former Women’s Hockey Players Make Canada’s Olympic Roster

ITHACA, N.Y. – Five women's hockey players who donned the Carnelian Red and White during their collegiate careers with now be wearing the Maple Leaf on the world's biggest stage in PyeongChang, South Korea. Rebecca Johnston '12, Laura Fortino '13, Lauriane Rougeau '13, Brianne Jenner '15 and Jillian Saulnier '15 were all listed on Hockey Canada's 23-player roster that is headed to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
 
Johnston is a seasoned veteran of the Olympic circuit, winning Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014. While at Cornell, she garnered numerous accolades, including being a four-time First Team All-Ivy and All-ECAC Hockey selection. As a senior, she also achieved First Team All-American status. The forward still holds school records in career shots on goal (673) and shots per game (5.70) and shares the program record for game-winning goals in a single season (7, 2011-12) along with Jenner.
 
Fortino, Rougeau and Jenner all head into the Winter Games with one gold medal under their belts as they were members of the 2014 national team that stood on top of the podium in Sochi, Russia.
 
Fortino was a standout defenseman for Cornell, becoming a three-time All-American and a three-time First Team All-Ivy and All-ECAC Hockey pick. Fortino currently owns the second-best plus/minus rating in school history (+143) while also ranking seventh in the record books in career assists (98).
 
While competing for the Big Red, Rougeau was a four-time Second Team All-American and First Team All-ECAC Hockey honoree while also being recognized as ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Defenseman in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Her career plus/minus rating of +150 is the best in program history while her 89 assists is the 10th most in school history.
 
During her time on East Hill, Jenner was a four-time First Team All-ECAC Hockey and All-Ivy selection and was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year and the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2013 and 2015. She holds the Cornell record in game-winning goals (20) and assists (136) and shares the program record in short-handed goals (6) and game-winning goals in a single season (7, 2012-13).
 
Saulnier will be heading to the Olympics with Team Canada for the first time in her career. The forward was a two-time First Team All-ECAC and All-Ivy selection while also becoming a First Team All-American and a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as a junior. She ranks fourth in school history in game-winning goals (12), short-handed goals (5), assists (114) and plus/minus (+108).
 
The Olympic tournament begins on Saturday, Feb. 10 and closes out with the gold-medal match on Thursday, Feb. 22. Team Canada will start play on Sunday, Feb. 11 as a part of Group A.
